Who we are in Christ - 6

In the earlier post I began teaching about the functions of the Spirit Soul and Body. If you haven't read the earlier posts I urge you to do so. Ok, so lets continue. 

The functions of the Spirit, Soul and Body are as follows:

Body - Bone, Flesh and Blood

Soul - Intellect, Emotions and Will

Spirit - Intuition, Communion and Conscience

In earlier post, I spoke about the Bone, Intellect and Intuition. In the same way that the Bone gives structure to the body, the Intellect gives structure to the Soul and Intuition given structure to the Spirit. 

Our flesh has the function of covering our bones while at the same time making the movement of the bones supple and smooth. Imagine yourself without flesh. You would look scary to begin with and every-time you moved you would hear your bones rub against each other and make squeaky sounds.

In the same way your emotions make your soul function smoothly and your Communion (with God) makes your Spirit function smoothy. Now, Man can have communion with God only through his Spirit. You cannot have communion with God through body or mind. 

When God made Man, He made him Spirit, Soul and Body for a reason. The body of Man is world-conscious. Man becomes conscious of the world around him through his 5 senses - taste, smell, hearing, seeing and touching. For example, it is through the body that Man becomes conscious of a fire in the house. The smell, the heat and the crackling of the flames all come alive through the five senses. Your body is primarily for you to be world conscious, so that you do not bang into walls, trip over stones, stay too close to a flame, touch anything too sharp etc... 

The soul of Man is self-conscious. The soul is primarily for man to know himself. The soul can understand both the things of the body and the things of the Spirit. The soul knows when it is hot and the soul also understands the things of the Spirit: Salvation, for example. 

Finally, the Spirit of Man is God-conscious. You are Spirit and you can communicate with God only through your Spirit. It is through your Spirit that you can have relationship and fellowship with God. Prior to salvation you were cut off from communion with God. However, when you receive Jesus Christ as Lord, God gives you a New Spirit and you can now have communion with God. 

That is why Jesus said:

John 4:23-24

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
