In Mumbai many shops and businesses have been forced to shut down. I can sense a fear in the hearts of men that if they do not do this their stores will be damaged with stones and bamboos.
In the light of this, I would like to talk about how a person can earn the respect of others.
Fear is one way to get someone's respect. It is my humble request that aspiring leaders who seek the respect of people do not follow the path of fear.
The greatest example of a leader is Jesus Christ. If you want to be a leader that will be remembered and respected eternally there is no better person to learn from than Him.
Jesus Christ displayed true Humility from the day of His birth. Remember, Jesus Christ was God. In heaven, God is praised day and night. The bible says: And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”
The bible says that the Universe can be marked by the breadth of God's hand. (Isaiah 40:12) This supreme God who is to be praised eternally limited himself to the flesh and walked on the Earth because He loved Man and wanted to save him. When Jesus Christ walked on the earth nobody knew who He was but for his parents, let alone did anyone praise Him. For 30 years Jesus Christ lived the life of man limited by time and space and after that He died the most important death that will be remembered forevermore in history. The bible says: Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11)
If God wanted, He could very well land in a spaceship and have the whole world worship Him with fear. He could force people to respect Him and make Him their Lord. But God is not like that. He is very humble and is not into exalting Himself. Jesus Christ is respected and praised forevermore not because people are scared of Him but because of His great love for people.
This is the truth to be learnt by leaders of tomorrow. You can get people to love you and respect you wholeheartedly by serving and loving them. The bible says: Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:43-45)
The greatest way to receive love and respect is to become a servant and serve others. It is to put others before yourself. That is why God is so dearly loved and respected by those who believe in Him.
God never forced me into respecting Him. It is my understanding of his great love for me that makes me love and respect Him. I am willing to live for Him, die for Him and make Him my Lord because I am so captivated by His love (expressed in his service) for me. This is true for so many Christians. Over the years Christians have been willing to face anything, even death to get the message of Christ's death and Love throughout the world. That is why Jesus Christ is the most loved and respected leader of all time. The zeal and love of his followers towards Him and others are a testament to this truth.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:10-11)
I pray that leaders of the future will be loved and respected for their love and service towards people.
