When God called Abraham, He told him to leave his household and people and go to the land He will show him. (Genesis 12:1). God says in another verse: I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it. (Genesis 15:7). God said something similar to the Israelites in Egypt. He said: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. (Exodus 20:2) (Exodus 6:6). And then he said I have promised to bring you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites- a land flowing with milk and honey. (Exodus 3:17). We can therefore see that God's plan for Man included a Deliverance and an Inheritance.
The Deliverance
The stories in the Old Testament are types for New Testament realities. God doesn't necessarily want you to leave your household and people but he wants to deliver you from the kingdom of darkness (the world order) and bring you in his Kingdom, the kingdom of his Son (a heavenly order). (Colossians 1:13). God wants to you to be a citizen of heaven. (Philippians 3:20). He wants you think like you are from heaven, talk like you are from heaven and live like you are from heaven. (Colossians 3:1-2). God does not want you to live like the world lives because the world and its ways are messed up and it can really mess you up as well. (Romans 1:29-32) (Colossians 3:8) (Ephesians 5:3-5) (Ephesians 2:1-3)
One of the main reasons God wants to deliver you is so that He can be your God. (Exodus 6:7) I know that sounds a little funny but many people are not worshipping God, the Creator rather they are worshipping his Creation or created things. (Romans 1:22-23) (Romans 1:25). Satan is the ruler of the present world order. That is why it is so messed up and he has blinded people so that they do not see light. (2 Corinthians 4:4) (Ephesians 4:18) But God wants to bring you out of darkness into the light and He wants you to see Him, the one true God, as God. (Deuteronomy 6:4) (1 Peter 2:9). It is like author Robert H. Schuller says: Believe in the God who Believes in you. There is only one God who respects and honors you. My advice is that you seek him and find him. If you have the time I urge you to read Robert's book. (Read | Believe in the God who Believes in You)

The Inheritance
God not only wants to deliver you but he also wants you to take possession of your inheritance. Like I said, the Old Testament stories are New Testament realities. A lot of Christians stop at the Deliverance and forget about their Inheritance. That is like God setting up a big buffet and you settling only for rice and sambar. The Bible says God has given us all things pertaining to life and godliness through the knowledge of Christ. (2 Peter 1:3-4). Notice the words: "has given us". Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Weren't these the exact same words that God told Abraham and the Israelites. God told Abraham: I have given you the land of Cannan. (Genesis 15:18-21). God told the Israelites the same thing: Go and take possession of the land I have given you. (Deuteronomy 1:8).
God tells every man who has been delivered: I have given you all things pertaining to Life and Godliness, Go and take possession of it. For Abraham and his descendants, the Inheritance was called the Land of Promise. For you, all the promises of God are your Inheritance. So what are you waiting for? God has promised you so many things. Find out what they are and go and take possession of it.
That is why it is so important to go to a good bible-preaching church. It is the responsibility of the Man of God on the pulpit to tell you about Christ, his redemption, the inheritance He has prepared for you and how to take possession of it. And it is also your responsibility to study the Bible and find out for yourself. (Acts 17:11)...
