Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood…
In this post I will talk about the blood of Jesus. I already spoke about the word propitiation in an earlier post. The word propitiation is the place where the just demands of God are satisfied. It is the place where the blood was sprinkled to satisfy the just demands of God. (Leviticus 16:1-23) (Hebrews 9:7)
Now, liberal theologians often ignore the teaching of the blood of Jesus. They believe that God instructed the people of past ages to bring blood sacrifices because they were primitive in their way of thinking. They say that there is no need to talk about the blood in this modern world. They say that the teaching of the blood is confined only Paul’s teaching. He was a Jew before he was converted and therefore, his Jewish mind made him speak about the blood of Jesus in comparison to blood sacrifices, which is totally unnecessary.
But, if you take a concordance of the bible and look up the word blood you will notice that the teachings of the blood are not restricted to Paul’s writings. Jesus spoke about his blood throughout the gospels. (Matthew 26:28). Paul speaks about the blood consistently as a means and a way for redemption. (Ephesians 1:7) (Ephesians 2:13) (Romans 3:25). Peter also speaks about the blood of Jesus calling it, the precious blood (1 Peter 1:18-19) and so does John in his epistle. (1 John 1:9) John also speaks about the blood in more detail in the book of Revelation. (Revelation 1:5) (Revelation 5:9) (Revelation 7:14) (Revelation 12:11)
Let me just take one verse that talks about the blood of Jesus. In this verse Paul is instructing the church of Ephesus while he is leaving. This is the height of Paul's description about the blood of Jesus…
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Paul does not say God purchased the church with the blood of Jesus. He goes directly to the point and says God purchased the church with his own blood. This is how much Paul believed in the blood of Jesus...
